I followed your link to Peter Handke, Lori. Oh well, there goes another artist who has created lovely things, even if his political views have been found unsavoury. Much is down to personal experience and people usually have their reasons behind their opinions, but denying the facts of the genocides indicates bigotted bias. Oh well. Like you said, Lori, often it's best not to dig too deep when exploring artists. Do his views on political matters negate the brilliance of this poem here? I don't think so.
There are many reasons why people are blind to see certain things in life whilst they have crystal clear vision and focus and wisdom about other things. The poem is great, even if the man who wrote it might have made some big mistakes of judgement.
