How do you know they're your neighbour's rats?

They have a supposedly walkthrough lean-to next to the wall with god knows what inside it, you Can’t actually walk through it anymore it’s a disaster zone. Most likely with food supply in it. Up until the rats appeared they’ve been putting leftover food out on the lawn too “ for the birds” 
Also they have a rotten decking, and poison was all gone from under the decking. The rats were definitely theirs. They only came over to our side of the attic behind the facia, to explore and feed on the lovely poison we have provided. No droppings or damage. But they were terribly noisy.
Thankfully they’ve stopped doing that.
